ANGELS OF NO MERCY 9.2.18

ANGELS OF NO MERCY was my first solo show. It featured work in graphite and ink, depicting warrior women in patterning based on Art Deco, Yaqui Native and geometric design to create a biomorphic dynamic of the female form. “Angels of No Mercy” was an exploration of the warrior within women. Through a pastiche of patterning rendered in metallic graphite and ink, armor and masks were created and morph with the flesh of the figure, both shielding and canonizing the Angel.

The work is about my own experience as a child of abuse and oppression, and how as an adult woman, I have interpreted the skills gained to survive. The many layers women wear in order to survive daily life, layers shift and change, constantly moving to expose and protect, wearing the heavy, stone-like city scapes that crown their heads with ease.
